Dr. Charles "Chic" Shaver
Founder & Co-Director
“Chic” Shaver met Christ as a student at Dartmouth College. Soon after, he changed his life plans from law to ministry. He has been an evangelist, church planter, pastor, professor of evangelism at Nazarene Seminary 30 years, and author. His Basic Bible Studies have sold over ¾ of a million copies in English and, to Dr. Shaver's belief, have been translated in over 55 languages,
Dr. Shaver holds degrees from Dartmouth College (A.B.), Nazarene Theological Seminary (M. Div.) and Fuller Theological Seminary (D. Min.).
In 2019, the general church released Dr. Shaver's twelve-lesson online course on witnessing, available at thediscipleshipplace.org.
On February 12, 2019, Dr. Shaver and Nancy received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his work as an evangelist. This occurred before 3000-4000 clergy and leaders at the Kansas City M19 conference. In 2019 the Foundry Publishing released Basic Bible Studies in an online version compatible with smartphones. In 2022, The Foundry released Living In The Blessing, A 365 Day Devotional by Dr. Shaver, which he believes is his most inspired work.
He and Nancy have been joyfully married since 1959. Their children are Rachel, Paul, and Miriam.
Dr. Scott Rainey
Co-Director
Dr. Scott R. Rainey began serving as the lead pastor of Huntington, Indiana, First Church of the Nazarene (HNaz) on January 14, 2024.
From August 1, 2018, through February 29, 2024, Dr. Rainey served the general Church of the Nazarene as the Global Director of Nazarene Discipleship International (NDI). Under his leadership with NDI, the Church of the Nazarene made significant strides in the area of discipleship, including the development and launch of a new framework for discipleship known as “A Journey of Grace.”
From January 2012 through August 1, 2018, Dr. Rainey and his family served as missionaries in the former Soviet Union, living in the country of Ukraine. In 2014, he was appointed as the Field Strategy Coordinator for the Eurasia North Field on the Eurasia Region. Under Scott’s leadership, the Eurasia North Field entered three new countries (Georgia, Belarus, and Latvia) and started 24 new missional communities with hopes that each of these house churches would develop into healthy, multiplying churches.
An ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene, he served as the lead pastor of Living Word Church of the Nazarene in Houston, Texas, from April 2003, through December 2011. During Scott’s pastoral ministry in Houston, Living Word grew from 450 to 750 in regular attendance, relocated, and planted Celebrate Life Nazarene in Katy, Texas.
Scott has also served in staff positions in Fort Wayne, Indiana (Minister of Evangelism and Discipleship at Grace Point Church of the Nazarene), and Kansas City, Missouri (Assistant Minister of Outreach and Evangelism at KC First Church of the Nazarene).
Dr. Rainey is a graduate of Olivet Nazarene University, Nazarene Theological Seminary, and Houston Graduate School of Theology, where he earned a Doctor of Ministry degree with an emphasis in church dynamics.
He and his wife, Jenni, and their two daughters, Bekah and Sarah, currently reside in northeast Indiana.
